A church planting movement (CPM) is different than a church plant.

A church plant is the process of a new Christian church being established.

What is a Church Planting Movement? A CPM is a rapid and multiplicative increase of indigenous churches. Planting churches within a given people group or population segment.

They are usually marked by rapid growth in starting new churches. Also, there is an emphasis on multiplication. 2 churches becoming 4 and 4 becoming 8, this is accomplished by the churches themselves multiply, and not through professional church planters or missionaries. Finally, these churches are indigenous meaning that the movement comes from within the population segment and not from outside.
